Australia bounced back by the test series defeat and won the 1st Twenty20 International by 52 runs against South Africa on Sunday, 11th January, 2009 at Melbourne. Australia leading the 2 T20 match series by 1-0 as the 2nd match will be played on Tuesday, 13th January, 2009.Australia won the toss and elected to bat first got a flying start thanks to debutant David Warner scored 89 runs off 43 balls with 7 fours and 6 sixes, he also won Man of the Match award as he hasn't played even a first class match helped Australia to reach 182/9 in 20 overs.
In reply South Africa got a disastrous start reduced to 12/3 in 3 overs but a wonderful inning by Duminy of 78 runs off 48 balls with 9 fours and 1 six, but no one else supported him as the all out on 130 runs.
