In a thrilling final West Indies beat host Sri Lanka, coming from behind by a huge margin of 36 runs, to lift their first T20 World Cup, first since 1979 on Sunday, 7th October, 2012 at Colombo. WI made 137/6 in 20 overs and SRL all out on 101 runs in 18.4overs.
West Indies got one of their slowest start of T20 after wining the toss and were 32-2 after 10 overs while Gayle was in the pavilion but Marlon Samuels played one of the greatest T20 innings under pressure with 78 runs off 56 balls with 3 fours and 6 sixes targeted Lasith Malinga who gave 54 runs in 4 overs. They have scored 105 runs in last 10 overs after Ajantha Mendis took 4 wickets for 12 runs.
In reply Sri Lanka were at good position after loosing Dilshan early with 48/1 in 9 overs but Sammy and 6-2 and Sunil Naraine 9-3 reduced them to 69-7 in 15 overs, Kulasekara tried to fight as score 22 runs off Rampaul over but after that its all over and the Gangnam started.
Morlon Samuels got Man of the match for his 78 runs while Australia's Shane Watson got Man of the Match award for his 243 runs and 15 wickets.
